Dishwasher Spray Arm Not Spinning

1. Upper spray arm blocked or clogged

2. Lower rack overloaded, restricting water flow upward
A tightly packed bottom rack can block water from reaching the upper spray arm with enough force, even if the arm itself is completely clear.
3. Loose connection where the upper arm's water feed meets the tub wall
On many machines, water reaches the top rack through a connector on the tub's back wall — if this has loosened or has a worn seal, less water (or none) reaches the top.
4. Water inlet valve or pump losing pressure under full load
Less commonly, a partially restricted inlet or a pump that's lost some strength may deliver just enough pressure for the closer bottom rack but not enough to reach the top effectively.
Rule out the spray arm itself
Remove and clean the upper spray arm as described in our spray arm guide, confirming it spins freely once reattached.
Reduce bottom-rack density
Load the bottom rack with clear space between items and re-run a cycle to see if top-rack cleaning improves.
Check the upper water feed connector
With the racks removed if needed, inspect where the tube supplying the top rack connects at the tub wall, confirming it's properly seated and not visibly damaged.
Test with a lighter, well-spaced full load
Run a normal cycle with both racks loaded but not overpacked, and check whether top-rack results improve meaningfully.
